Catching up on the week...

After the big fast run on Monday I was a little sore, so I took Tuesday off, then did a gentle 9k on Wednesday, a fast 5k on Thursday and a gentle 10.5k on Friday. On Friday's run my left knee was sore from about 1k in, but I slowed down and managed to run off the worst of the discomfort and carried on again.
Obviously at this point a knee injury is game over for the big run - but I'm pretty confident it was just a little niggle. I suspect it was probably brought on by the speed work, not the distance - at 61k it hasn't exactly been a big week.
So - as long as the knee doesn't hurt I plan to do a couple of long (30k+) runs next week and hopefully will hit somewhere in the 70-90k point, depending on what else needs doing. If the knee is sore I will back off completely and start the tapering a week earlier than planned and hope that it is fully healed by the 5th October.... which would be a little scary - I really want to hit the tapering period sore and tired, but not injured.
I am pretty fed up with being sore and tired though - quite looking forward to next week being the last big one and then dropping down... am getting butterflies now just thinking about starting. Am also beginning to obsess about the weather, thinking through permutations of what to do if it's wet, windy, hot etc.... just need to get it done now...!
